Superstarz Mastery

Yellow StarSuperstarz Mastery ClubYellow Star

If you are a student who is serious about learning, who wants to go above and beyond what is required for a fourth or fifth grader, who enjoys working independently and who knows that being a brainiac is very cool, then THIS IS THE CLUB FOR YOU!

All you have to do is select a challenge, research it on your own or with a parent, and then choose how you want to present it to Mrs. Dunnigan to show what you have learned. You will become a member whether you complete one challenge or all of them. However, if you complete 5 challenges by the end of the school year, you will have earned a place of honor in our Superstarz Mastery HALL OF FAME! Once you have achieved this status, you will be a lifetime member, remaining on the wall until I retire many, many years from now. What an honor!

* I would like to thank Ms. Heather Renz of Redmond, Oregon for allowing us to borrow this this terrific idea and Mrs. Miranda for her California version.

Final Project Ideas For Your Challenge Presentations

  1. Model
    1. Involves making a model of one of the challenges.

    2. Final product should show attention to detail, with a firm understanding of what your challenge contains. It could be a salt dough relief map, diorama, or triorama (see Mrs. Dunnigan)

  1. Art
    1. Choose a scene.

    2. Final product could take the form of paintings, drawings, watercolors, collage or any other visual art you can imagine!

  1. Writing
    1. Involves a creating a detailed narrative in your mind that you would like to tell using the written word.

    2. Final product should be a final draft narrative piece with all conventional narrative components: setting, characters, conflict, and resolution. It could be a first person narrative in a journal or diary.

    3. Involves creating an informative piece of writing.

    4. Final product could look at an article on your challenge then writing about that article, a comparison of two articles on your challenge, or a research project on your challenge.

    5. Involves creating a persuasive/opinion piece of writing.

    6. Final product would be an persuasive/opinion essay on the challenge you have chosen.

  1. Internet (Brief Report or Collage)
    1. Involves doing web searches and gathering information about your challenge.

    2. Final product could take the form of a report sharing the facts you have gathered, or it could be a visual collage of photos.

  1. Technology
    1. Involves concentrating on the challenge that you have chosen. Choose a program that you can use that allows you to demonstrate your knowledge and responses to a particular challenge.

    2. Final product could be a slide show using Pixie, Power Point, imove or trailer, comic strip, or any other program you have at home.

  1. Performance
    1. Involves writing a plan for how the performance will be presented. This could take the form of a play script, lyrics and music for a song, or any other performing art.

    2. Final product should be a well done performance in one of the following formats: live play, live or recorded musical performance, or any other performing art. These could include a travel commercial, a nature program, or talk show with expert guests.

The above are all ideas or possibilities.

You may come up with a project that combines some of these ideas such as a travel brochure.
