You can turn your notebook paper sideways so that the lines form columns. Write your standard form number at the top and then each number in the proper place with the zeros following it. When you're finished, if you draw a line around the outside of the numbers it forms a slice of pizza.
Rounding Poem
Mark the place, look to the right.
Four or less, just sit tight.
Five and up, you add one more,
Now toss those "righties" out the door.
In those empty right-hand spaces,
Zeroes keep the proper places.

Traditional Method- We have also learned the traditional way as well. We have talked about how the ones place on the bottom number dances with the ones and tens on top. When they are done, the ones go to visit the punch bowl (the zero holder in the ones place on the second line). Then it's the tens (on the bottom number) turn to dance with the two numbers up above. Long Division
Likewise, the many steps in long division can be very trying. I teach the Superstar Kids DMSCB....Dumb Monkies Smash Bananas or Drive My Super Cool Buggy. There are many ways to remember it. It stands for the steps in the problem...divide, multiply, subtract, bring down.
D = Divide
M=Multiply
S=Subtract
C=Check
B=Bring down or Bring up (end of the problem with a remainder).
I also teach them to check their answer by multiplying the divisor by the quotient. Remember if there"s a reminder we add that to the answer of the divisor multiplied by the quotient.

To make an improper fraction into a mixed number do a back flip

To make a mixed number into an improper fraction do a cartwheel
3 1 multiply the denomator by the whole number (3 x 3 =9) add the 9 and the numerator so 9 + 1=10 10

Graphing with the X and Y cordinates and grid
To graph an ordered pair (3,4) we say that Spiderman has to run before he can jump (thanks to E.J. for this tip!)
When we are using the 4 quadrants, we say you go in the door at (0,0) and then go into the house (positive number) or into the backyard (negative number). After that you go up the stairs (positive) or down the stairs (negative)
